US-IL-NorthfieldThe I/S Senior Technology Manager position fulfills several key functions with Medline's I/S Infrastructure organization. First, the role serves as a member of Medline's Senior Leadership group. In this capacity the role has influence over department direction, decisions and other activities. Secondly the Senior Technology Manager position acts as a key cross functional liaison towards Medline's business units, as well as other I/S groups. Finally, the Senior Technology Manager is fully responsible for the availability and performance of the technology and teams in their organizational structure.

The position is based out of our Northfield, IL headquarters.


  • Responsible for leading a significant subset of department
    o Work closely with other I/S executives to set and implement department direction in a variety of fronts
    o Participate or drive visioning activities relating to technical infrastructure and I/T department processes
    o Coach and manage these visions to implementation
    o Translate business changes, issues and requests to their appropriate impact on I/S
    o Communicate system issues/impacts with users in non-technical terms - coach staff on the same

  • Manage larger projects, utilizing appropriate department methodologies - coach staff on the same
    o Present projects to key stake holders and I/S executives regarding budget, timeline and benefits and risks
    o Have strong technical skills and knowledge of existing and emerging technologies which your teams support

  • Communicate the benefits and impacts of implementing new technologies into our environment. Viewed as a key resource for the technical areas under their ownership

  • Understand, continuously improve and implement Medline's project, priorities, support and incentive management
    o Maintain focus on quality and cost control

  • Responsible for overall quality of team's output, including diagnosing and correcting root process or procedural problems contributing to any quality issues
    o Responsible for the productivity of specific assigned teams
    o Responsible for estimating team's capacity, committing to when work will get work done, its impact on customers and the existing infrastructure

  • Have deep systems design and support background with a global perspective
    o Provide design vision and detailed help where required by managers and team members
    o Have a functional understanding with the areas his systems support
    o Provide vision and direction for technical architecture, development framework, and security
    o Has the background to understand the need for these, an understanding of personal limitations and ability to leverage department experts for this

  • Author standards and methodologies employed by department/team

  • Be resourceful and aware enough to help support or manage many areas and situations
    o This doesn't mean the individual knows how to do every specific task anyone reporting to them does. But it does mean they know what they know, what they don't know - and where to go for additional assistance when needed

  • Participate in personnel strategies including recruiting, retention, hiring, firing, performance coaching and reviews, corrective action, career development
    o Provide guidance in compensation for your teams, including incentive programs. Question and contribute to the improvement of practices and policies and to represent I/S as a whole to the business community, regardless of their specific area of responsibility
    o Vision, coach and lead various departmental initiatives relating to initiatives such as departmental policies, standards, methodologies, staff retention, etc

  • Contain costs within area of responsibilities
    o This Includes vendor management responsibilities for pricing, delivery, quality, maintenance/support and their technology roadmaps

  • Contribute to organization success
    o Keep management, other team members and other departmental employees aware of status changes as necessary. Use judgment to determine when such communication is necessary. Consider the need for other team members to support their areas of responsibility and openly shares an understanding of these areas. Ensure his/her areas of expertise are covered when absent
    o Maintain a professional demeanor at all times. Consistently able to interact professionally and work productively with all levels of Medline employees. Follow Medline's Code of Ethics and other corporate policies
