Job Description:


The Director of Operational Strategy works in close partnership with the company's Strategy Leadership Team, Office of Strategy, commercial and senior human capital leaders to ensure that Vertex near-term and long-term business strategy is fully executable. In this role, the incumbent will ensure that business strategy shapes operations strategy and in turn, operations strategies and programs enable the company's enterprise and commercial strategies; as well as growth objectives.

This position is centered on the transformation of operations to a competitive disruptive advantage of the company. This leader who will operationalize the commercial strategies through the transformation of people, processes and technology, partnering with our enterprise leaders to define and execute on this vision. Specially, this leadership position looks to position Vertex to achieve:

  • Position our operations to excel in an omni-channel market where our technology may be leveraged across multiple markets

  • Key Responsibilities:

    • Serves as a trusted advisor to the company's senior leadership on all matters related to operations strategy

    • Synthesize, summarize and provide critical thinking on all operational strategic matters

    • Assist senior leaders in creating business plans for new operating platforms and or cross-functional initiatives

    • Works collaboratively with business and strategy leaders to:


    • maintain a client-focused, in-depth understanding of near-term and long-term business strategy


    • translate the operations needs of the business and the enterprise into a coherent and comprehensive operations strategy


    • ensure that the operations strategy is implemented in a way that meets the near-term and long-term requirements of the business strategy and enterprise growth objectives.


    • monitor operations strategy, execution, and delivery with quantitative and qualitative measures

    • Works collaboratively with senior operations leaders to:


    • understand the near-term and long-term operations strategy and fulfilment capabilities


    • build out operations capabilities to align with the operations strategy


    • monitor service delivery quality and identify opportunities for enhancement

    • Defines overarching operations strategic policy in areas critical to business and enterprise success including:

    • Commercial fulfilment of desired outcomes

    • Talent acquisition and development

    • Leadership attributes

    • Prevailing cultural attributes

    • Optimum organizational structure

    • Active participant on advisory and internal governance/review boards related to operations management

    • While this position does not have permanent staff, it will work closely with closely with all operational leaders in the development and design of operational strategy that will define the goals and objectives of these leaders.


    • Extensive experience with the processes of transformation at an enterprise level

    • Strong communication and team leadership skills

    • Ability to work with financial analysts in the modeling of various operational alternatives

    • Previous experience with technology and source suppliers.

    • Proven experience in maximizing the operating and performance of a company or project

    • Comfort in dealing with hypotheticals and/or large data sets and driving to succinct, executive-level communications. Ability to communicate at all levels in a confident, data-driven manner

    • Experience in creating business or strategic plans and a successful track record of implementation

    • Strong project management skills, results-driven, adaptable with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

    • Undergraduate degree required, MBA a plus.
