Job Summary

The primary function of the Edger Operator is to know and understand how to set up the machine(s) to produce various edges. The operator will pre-stage raw material according to work orders and place finished product in the appropriate staging areas in accordance with established glass handling guidelines. This involves prolonged periods of heavy lifting (60 to 75 lbs) and carrying as well as walking back and forth. Overhead assisted lift operation required as well. Responsibilities also include routine maintenance of machine(s).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Set up the edger machine(s) to produce various edges

  • Pre-stage raw material according to work orders and place finished product in the appropriate staging areas in accordance with established glass handling guidelines

  • Operating the polishing machines to produce a finished product which is within tolerance of edge profile, clarity, and overall glass size

  • Operate overhead assisted lift

  • Learn to set up polishing machine(s) for various edges and edge combinations

  • Learn and understand routine and preventive maintenance methods

  • Regular and predictable attendance, the ability to safely perform tasks, and adherence to all safety policies and procedures are essential functions of your job

Requirements


  • Previous shop floor or factory experience recommended

  • Must be able to work independently and with little direct supervision.

  • Aptitude to learn and understand machine set-up and maintenance for several edging machines and willingness to cross-train in other areas is required

Physical Requirements


  • Ability to stand on concrete, wearing safety boots with metatarsal guards, for entire shift

  • Must have the ability to lift, carry, or move up to 75 lbs. repeatedly throughout a shift (mostly heavy glass)

  • Ability to work in varied temperatures consistent with same climate conditions of the region (Heat, humidity, etc.). The shop floor working environment is subject to unusually warm temperatures during the summer months due to the heat generated by the glass tempering furnaces. Dust, pollen, and other typical airborne particulate matter are also present in the atmosphere of the shop floor.
