DESCRIPTION

The Educational Games in Medical Education (EGME) group is deeply involved in the design and operation of educational games in medical education. Our task is to create a medical education gaming science center that tests pedagogic principles of gaming as applied to GME requirements. This includes developing and then testing- medical educational tools to determine how well these tools help both medical students and junior faculty navigate the complex world research regulation, cross-disciplinary collaboration and the nexus between clinical decision making and clinical research design and implementation.

Within this context, we are intent on hiring a highly motivated game developer interested in being part of leading edge research and development program that include application of modern game technologies to biomedical education.

This position requires the individual to be able to bridge the worlds of gaming and medical education. Primary focus will be to develop well-documented code while working alongside a faculty lead and directing content expert, graphic artist, and UI designer. The individual must have solid understanding of: 1) game genres, particularly the elements that engage and motivate an individual to play. 2) GME domains. 3) Pedagogic principles underlying different types of learning inherent in GME domains. 4) Scientific methods inherent in testing effectiveness and efficiency of learning tools. 5) Coordinating diverse individuals of different professional backgrounds in declaring, operationalizing developing then testing games in support of GME learning domains. 6) Articulating game mechanic concepts and implementing production game.

Applies professional concepts, department / unit and campus / medical center / OP policies and procedures to resolve a variety of complex issues in one or more IT areas of specialization. Analyzes complex issues. Within defined procedures and practices, determines appropriate action.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

*

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
*

Three (3) or more years of relevant experience.
*

Broad knowledge of various areas of IT.
*

Advanced skills associated with programming design, modification and implementation. Basic knowledge of secure software development. Demonstrated ability to create software specifications.
*

Demonstrated ability to install software and troubleshoot and repair moderately complex problems with computing devices, peripherals and software. Understanding of and experience troubleshooting client, server and peripherals-related issues and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance. Experience in incident response and digital forensics, including data collection, examination and analysis.
*

Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions. Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
*

Demonstrated experience with database administration. Working knowledge of database management systems and standards. Knowledge relating to database system design. Advanced database querying and modeling skills working with moderately complex databases.
*

Familiarity with logical data design and data mapping or data conversion.
*

Advanced knowledge of computer security tools, best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software. Demonstrated skill at administering moderately complex security controls and configurations to computer hardware, software and networks.
*

Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
*

Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.
*

Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent / related functions.
*

Familiarity with data quality and governance issues and requirements.
*

Interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.

Works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Ability to learn effectively and meet deadlines.

Advanced skills associated with programming design, modification and implementation of educational games.

Advanced knowledge of Unity and Unreal Editor.
*

Demonstrated experience with educational games. Working knowledge of GME domains.
*

Knowledge of C#.
*

Knowledge of the game scripting languages, such as Lua and Unreal s Blueprint Visual Scripting.
*

Experience with training, work direction, performance assessment. Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.
*

Extensive knowledge of existing games, genres, and game technologies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

*

Experience with JavaScript.
*

Experience with a wide variety of gaming engines, such as: RPG Maker, Infinity Engine, Creation Engine, and Source.
