Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) is seeking candidates to fill a Healthcare Engineering Technician 2 / Biomedical Equipment Specialist II - X-ray Imaging Laboratory is responsible for Preventative Maintenance, new equipment acceptance inspections, installations, electrical safety, maintenance of appropriate records, scheduling and minor repair of all clinical / lab devices.

Position description

The person in this position ensures that medical and/or laboratory equipment works properly, is safe to operate, and works with a high degree of reliability. Medical and laboratory equipment must produce consistent and reliable results and the service technician helps to ensures that equipment performs in this manner. Candidates will need a basic understanding of the physics, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, biology, medical terminology used in a hospital or laboratory setting. Working knowledge of the common clinical terminology used in a clinical or laboratory setting. Working knowledge of computer networks, network configuration, computer setup and repair, computer data security requirements. Ability to use common electrical and electronic test instruments such as o-scopes, multi-meters, radiation meters. Good mechanical skills and abilities. Mayo Clinic's commitment to diversity. Qualifications

An Associates Degree in Biomedical Electronics is preferred. Or an Associates Degree in Electronics is required. AAMI certification as a CBET shall be required of all candidates that have not met the requirement of an Associates Degree in Biomedical Electronics, Electronic Engineering Technology or Computer Science.

Plus a minimum of two years experience working on portable and fixed general biomedical equipment with a strong background in physiological monitoring systems and networks is required. Previous experience working on equipment in a critical care environment is preferred. Specific skill sets required for this position are outlined under the Essential Functions/Criteria section of this document.

Additional qualifications

COMPETENCY: JOB KNOWLEDGE: Due to the amount of specialized equipment in this area, each technician must ultimately provide primary service expertise on multiple types of equipment and backup responsibility for other types. Manufacture's training and several years of experience are required to obtain the necessary skill sets. A basic understanding of medical terminology and familiarization with human anatomy and physiology is recommended. The individual must be committed to continuously improving their knowledge and abilities in order to become and remain proficient. Must be highly organized, efficient, and multifunctional with the ability to work independently or in a team environment. Technicians in this specialty maintain patient care related equipment used in surgery, intensive care, critical care, and step-down nursing units and various diagnostic laboratories. This equipment must be maintained such that it reliably and accurately provides therapeutic and diagnostic information for patients. Most service calls are communicated from the equipment user to the Section Secretary, then on to the service technician. This often requires a response time of 15 minutes or less. The technicians must prioritize their own work appropriately and be available to work overtime as needed. Individuals in this position must be customer focused with good communications and interpersonal skills. The ability to provide accurate and concise documentation is an absolute must in order to comply with regulatory agencies such as JCAHO. ADDL CONSIDERATIONS: Must be available to be on-call per department schedule. (weekends, holidays and nights) Must be able to work nights and weekends as necessary for scheduled maintenance. Willing to be available for Facilities Emergencies. Physical requirements will be standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pulling, reaching and climbing on stepladders. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in an environment with critically ill patients. Must be able to work in areas and with equipment that may present biological, chemical and radiation hazards providing adequate training and safety equipment is made available. Must be able to work in research facilities as required to provide support for the equipment.

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $22.35 per hour.
