Conceptual Design Engineer

Reporting to the Mechanical Design Global/Regional Leader, the Conceptual Design Engineer is responsible for increasing Littelfuse Automotive Sensor Products (ASP) Business Unit knowledge of the local market and customer needs from a technology and engineering standpoint. This person will work as a partner with the customer and is expected to come up with innovative ideas that meet or exceed the customer requirements while being cost effective.

About the Job:

  • Work with Original Equipment Manufactures/Tier 1 customers closely to support the concept design from a system level to generate more valuable products to the customer and Littelfuse.

  • Work with Original Equipment Manufactures/Tier 1 customers closely to identify new opportunities and develop the solution in conjunction with Advanced Engineering in anticipation of the RFQ process.

  • Collaborate with Technical Marketing and sales to promote Littelfuse technology and products and gain the new opportunities for business revenue contribution.

  • Develop strategy customers and product lines with Sales, Center of Excellence Leaders and Technical Marketing.

  • Define and coordinate the build of Concept Samples (A-Samples).

  • Generate Concept Designs such as 3D Model, circuit design, and draft drawings.

  • Generate Bill of Materials and estimate project Engineering Costs (NPP/CCM).

About You:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automotive, Electronics Engineer or Physics Science degree, or equivalent. Master of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent a plus.

  • Minimum of 5 years automotive design experience is required.

  • Strong problem solving skills (8D, Six Sigma, etc) – Takes ownership of problems and is driven to develop viable and permanent solutions.

  • Strong skills in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Initiative – Proactively seeks out opportunities for improvement and takes the initiative on implementing improvement processes.

  • Strong facilitation skills – Helps others work toward finding solutions even when the solution is not clear.

  • Self-motivated and assertive – Sets high standards for self and is self-driven to achieve continuous improvement. Holds self-accountable for completing assignments/projects at a high quality level and on time.

  • A minimum of 3 years 3D CAD modeling experience,  NX preferred.

  • Experience with sensing technologies such as but not limited to hall effect, magnetoresistive, reed switches, photo diodes, general magnetic theory required.

  • Experience with automotive systems such as but not limited to engine systems, HVAC systems, ABS/TCS systems, power-train control systems, passenger safety systems (seat belts, occupant detection), fluid level monitoring systems, hydraulic systems.

  • Experience with common manufacturing processes for automotive sensors such as but not limited to plastic injection molding, stamping, heat staking, laser welding, resistance welding, soldering, printed circuit boards assembly (SMT), encapsulation.

  • Prior experience with direct interface with customers and suppliers.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with a cross functional team.

  • 50% travel required, including travel internationally 2 times per year, most of the travel will mainly be in the Midwestern region.
