The Web Test Lead will be responsible for executing, and reporting on automated and manual back end, API, and middleware web application service layer testing. Specifically, their efforts will be focused on driving efficient and sustainable automated back end testing for supporting service layer architechture for customer facing web portal and applications. The Back End Test Lead is responsible for designing, developing, and executing quality service testing processes, strategies, test plans, and test cases that verify software functionality, conformance to acceptance criteria, and feature design. They actively look for efficiency improvements to, but not limited to: process, workflow, technology stack, and team collaboration across multiple projects. As a leader and point of technical, and senior, reference of a group of testers across multiple Agile teams, the Back End Test Lead will provide mentoring and advice to Back End Test team members. This candidate will accurately & concisely report progress on goals on an as requested basis. The Back End Test Lead possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, works on projects of high complexity within one or more development environments, oversees multiple programs/systems as a project team lead, is considered a subject matter expert for API and Service Layer testing, and upholds efficiency and script standards. The preferred candidate will be proficient in: API testing methodologies, Service layer performance/load testing, SQL/noSQL/etc, scripting languages, Service Virtualization concepts and implementations, and CI/CD or DevOps testing principles.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Providing Back End architectural direction and leadership, mentoring and technical guidance to Back End Test team members
Defines and tracks quality assurance metrics such as defects, defect counts, test results and test status for back end testing efforts
Defining, improving, and/or upholding in-place automated back end testing best practices, script standards, processes, and procedures.
Provide succinct and accurate documentation of issues.
Delivers quality process training to technical staff and acts as an internal quality consultant to advise or influence business or technical partners
Ensures quality standards, procedures and methodologies are being followed
Document and implement test strategies, plans, processes and standards
Utilize, maintain and improve back end testing execution, metrics tracking, and systems
Involved in the design, development, documentation, and maintenance of automated back end test cases and other test artifacts, including test data and data verification.
Ensure that appropriate API testing tools are selected and applied optimally
Review the architecture and designs of API systems and features, and actively engage with Business Analysts and Developers/Engineers to ensure the soundness of proposed solutions, and their Requirements and Acceptance Criteria
Create and maintain configuration notes for the testing environments, both functional and non functional (e.g. performance testing) environments.
Provide recommendations to application stakeholders and leadership teams on fitness of releases for production deployments for functional and performance requirements
Actively participate in Sprint Planning and Retrospectives, ensuring the voice, recommendations and concerns of the test team is professionally and purposefully represented.
Lead, guide, and mentor back end testers
Collaborates with technical staff to learn and understand software problems.
Ensures that validated deliverables meet functional and design specifications and requirements.
Analyzes and resolves automation related problems by coordinating with team to diagnose and fix issues.

Ability to track multiple test efforts simultaneously and to be able to synthesize the results in fast paced environment
Proficient in using Parasoft SOAtest and GIT
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Working knowledge of Jira Agile
Knowledge of the HP ALM test case repository application
Selenium, Java, AWS, and/or Maven experience is a plus
Knowledge of CI/CD or DevOps practies, implementations, and execution is a preferred
Experience testing service layer APIs, middleware, and back end systems is required
Experience working with an Agile development team is required
BA/BS in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent work experience
Related Work Experience
5+ years relevant API development or testing
Experienced with modular design and testing approach
