Responsibilities

The Research Director role is a relatively public role with many client-facing and industry-facing responsibilities, including regular interaction with major software vendors, cloud services providers and industry players. The candidate hired for this position will be responsible for conducting and delivering the research published in the Cloud and SaaS research service. The primary research focus will explore multi-cloud and hybrid cloud management and strategy by industry, examining how adoption levels, deployment, timing, preferences, attitudes, fears, best practices, and maturity vary by industry, as well as how various industry factors (i.e. regulations, data standards, value chain dynamics, etc.) are impacting these decisions.

Primary responsibilities will include:


  • Conducting market research

  • Writing research reports

  • Authoring case studies, benchmark reports, and other forms of written research



Additional responsibilities include managing the research agenda, helping with marketing activities, supporting related custom consulting engagements, conducting business development, providing sales support, and acting effectively as a client advisor for industrial companies and technology suppliers.

The 4 primary skills required to be successful in this role include:


    1. Knowledge – A strong understanding of multi-cloud and hybrid cloud strategy, management, and related technology


    2. Writing skills – Excellent writing skills. Ability to write research reports quickly and clearly, in a prescription fashion, offering business and technology advice to clients.


    3. Speaking skills – Strong speaking presence. Ability to handle client inquiries over the phone or in-person, deliver webcasts, and occasionally speak publicly at meetings or events.


    4. Self-motivated hard worker



    Qualifications


    • A solid understanding of multi-cloud management and strategy, and broader information technology in general

    • 10+ years of cloud-related work experience

    • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business, or related focus

    • Master's degree a plus

    • Superior communication skills and the ability to speak publicly at events and/or webcasts required

    • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required.

    • Proven track record of multi-tasking, meeting deadlines and delivering projects on time/budget

    • Extremely organized, with strong analytical skills

    • Travel (approximately 10-20%) will be required as needed
