The Respiratory Therapist is a clinically competent interdisciplinary team member who is responsible for assessing the respiratory care needs of an assigned group of patients, recommending appropriate therapy based on that assessment, and performing specific respiratory treatments. The Respiratory Therapist must also be competent in performing a variety of cardiopulmonary diagnostics procedures. Interacts effectively with patients, families, and all other members of the health care team and maintains standards of respiratory therapy care. The Respiratory Therapist provides direct respiratory therapy care for medical/surgical, ICU, Emergency Department, and pediatrics from infancy to adulthood with the majority of patients being 65 or older.

QUALIFICATIONS (minimum requirements) Education and/or years experience required: •High School Graduate. A two or four year degree in Respiratory Care from a COARC accredited program is required for all hires after April 1, 2012. Licensure/Certifications required: •Must hold certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or a Certified Respiratory Therapists and maintains their NBRC Re-Credentialing. •Certified Respiratory Therapists hired after July 1, 2010 must obtain RRT within 18 months of hire/transfer. •Must be licensed by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice a Respiratory Therapist (RT). •Must be CPR certified by the American Heart Association (BLS) within one month of hire/transfer. •ACLS certification required (or within 1 year of hire/transfer). •NRP certification require (or within 1 year of hire/transfer).
