Under the supervision and direction of the Pharmacist, the Acute Care Pharmacy Technician is responsible for the accurate preparation of IV solutions, sterile injectable products, and sterile and non-sterile extemporaneous preparations. Job duties also include unit-dose preparations; inventory control; medication delivery, distribution, and storage; care of supplies and equipment; and management of automated medication dispensing systems. The Acute Care Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in all aspects of the daily departmental activities, including training of new staff and pharmacy students, billing, record keeping and other clerical functions, monthly audits, and other duties as assigned by the pharmacist. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and good organizational skills are beneficial.

QUALIFICATIONS (minimum requirements) Education and/or years experience required: •High school graduate, or equivalent •Basic clerical, computer, and mathematical skills •1 year previous technician experience in a hospital setting preferred •If working in a MN location, must meet one of these three education/experience categories as defined by the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy: 1.Previous experience as a pharmacy technician with maintenance of continuous registration as a pharmacy technician with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy dating back prior to January 1st 2013. 2.Completion of a board-approved technician training program. 3.Willingness to complete the Essentia Health employer-based technician training program within first 90 days of employment. •If working in a ND location, must meet one of these education requirements, as defined by the North Dakota Board of Pharmacy: 1.Successful completion of an American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists accredited academic program 2.An American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists accredited on-the-job training program and must have obtained certification by a national certification body approved by the Board of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board is an approved certification body. Licensure/Certifications required: •Registered as a pharmacy technician in the state in which they will be working (Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota) on or before their first day in the pharmacy •Certified by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, or must obtain certification within 2 years of hire. •Must maintain registration and certification for the duration of employment
