The Indirect Tax Projects & Planning Manager , will lead all indirect tax-related activities associated with, however not limited to , P rocess I mprovement and Efficiencies within Indirect Tax , Compliance, Resale / Exemption Certificates, Reconciliations, SoX , and Audits.
Reporting to the Senior Tax Manager, Indirect Tax the Indirect Tax Projects & Planning Manager will be a critical member of the Corporate Tax team , ensuring all special projects associated with indirect tax are met with accuracy and on time. This individual will be responsible for accurate and timely filings of S ales and U se tax, P roperty T ax, U nclaimed P roperty, and Registrations for all North American legal entities.
Essential Functions (not limited to) :
Special Projects : Involved in analyzing potential tax implications structures transactions for tax efficiency, and participate in advising on post-merger integration from an indirect tax perspective; identifying opportunities to minimize indirect tax liabilities
Process Improvement: Contribute to review current processes and exploring alternative approaches; Assist in streamlining indirect tax processes ; conduct reviews of existing indirect tax compliance processes to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to best practices
Compliance : Collaborate with others, with focus on the preparation of sales and use tax returns for both the US and Canada ; Gather reports from multiple systems and multiple areas of the company, validate , a nalyze, prepare returns, and remit payments before the filing deadlines
Resale/Exemption certificates : D iscuss, request and properly maintain documentation for exempting customers
Self-Assessment Process : Maintain self-assessment process , ensuring that self-assessed tax or consumers use tax flows through the return remittance process
Reconciliations : Perform reconciliations of sales tax and property tax accounts ; Verify accuracy of the general ledger indirect tax accrual accounts and be able to assist Senior Manager in documenting and validating reconciled items
Audits : Assist in coordinating state indirect tax audits, gather audit information, prepare and review responses to state audit inquiries and communicate audit status and result
Research : Research various tax issues and being able to communicate results and provide recommendations when necessary
Tax Technology : U pdate and access tax matrices and reporting within the indirect tax software being used
Sox Controls : G ather information from system and validate tax collected v erses remitted and tax rates and matrices are up to date ; also include s all other pertinent information within the systems are up to date and being calculated correctly
Qualifications & Job Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in related field
5+ years of experience with 2+ years leading, influencing, and collaborating cross functionally
Must maintain a strong understanding of latest tax laws and regulations
Ability to articulate clearly, concisely, and error-free
Excellent presentation skills with ability to tailor content to appropriate audience
Strong active listening skills to effectively communicate with colleagues and internal external partners
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA
Master's Degree in related field
SaaS Industry
Experience with indirect tax software such as Vertex, Avalara, and Thomson Reuters (OneSource)
Base Salary Ranges: $110,000 - $130,000
