Job Description:
The New York­ County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an immediate opening for a Legal Hiring Coordinator in its Legal Hiring Unit. In this position the coordinator is primarily responsible for managing the semester and summer college intern programs and the law student semester intern programs in addition to providing administrative support to the Attorneys-in-Charge of the internship programs and the Unit. The Legal Hiring Unit as a whole is responsible for coordinating the essential functions of the hiring process for full-time legal staff, summer law fellows, and summer and semester college student interns as well as developing and supervising semester and summer internship programs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Support the Director of the Unit and the Attorneys-in-Charge in the review, interview and selection process for the summer and semester college student interns and the law student semester interns.
  • Schedule Hiring Board members for interviewing, and manage communication and correspondence as directed.
  • Greet candidates arriving for interviews, provide information and instruction, and answer questions.
  • Communicate as needed with candidates, schedule interviews, and collect post-interview evaluations.
  • Oversee orientation and onboarding in coordination with the Human Resources Department.
  • Assist with planning programming, coordinate arrival and departure dates, and assist with assignment evaluation collection.
  • Facilitate the end of internship exit process.
  • Perform high-level administrative functions and related duties to support the Legal Hiring Unit Director and the operations of the Legal Hiring Unit.
  • Maintain and update the Unit's proprietary Legal Hiring database. Enter data and compile statistical reports as requested.
  • Various additional assignments related to legal staff hiring and programs as requested, including organizing and setting up special events.
  • Responsible for working with Unit supervisors to ensure efficient management of operations and resources.
  • Perform related administrative and clerical duties as needed.


In addition to the Minimum Qualification Requirements, all candidates must possess the following:

  • Level 1 - bachelor's degree from an accredited college.
  • Level 2 - bachelor's degree from an accredited college and one (1) year of experience in a law office or business.
  • Level 3 - bachelor's degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in a law office or business.


Preferred Requirements/Skills:

  • At least one year of experience in a law office or business preferred.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment; detail-oriented and self-motivated, and able to multi-task and adapt to changes in workflow.
  • Excellent presentation skills combined with confidence and poise.
  • Skilled in planning, problem-solving, and organization
  • Precise, thorough, and attentive to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, work independently, and take ownership over projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office. Ability to quickly master new computer systems and to update and edit existing applicant tracking database.
  • Knowledge of Symplicity and Survey Monkey and familiarity with social media is desirable.
  • Ability to absorb and retain information and apply it in new situations.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work \"hands-on\" as required.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines consistently and accurately.
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively across all levels of management.

Additional Information:

  • Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least 1 year in their current position and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum qualifications of the position.
  • Looking for candidates who can make a two-year commitment to the Legal Hiring Unit.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.


Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
  2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to \"1\" above.
