Job Description: The Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut (CGC), a non-profit children's mental health agency based in Stamford, CT, is currently seeking Mentors with a passion for helping children age 6-18. These children may struggle with emotional and/or behavioral difficulties, a mentor will give them the chance to interact and participate in fun, age-appropriate activities with a positive role model. While the volunteer mentor is spending quality time with the child/adolescent, parents and/or guardians will have some time for themselves.
*Serves the following catchment areas: Stamford, Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Westport, Weston and Wilton.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Commit to a minimum of 12 sessions with a child.
- Meet at least once a week for 2-3 hours per session. Program is flexible with time and weeks.
- Monday - Sunday mentoring is available.
- Hours are between Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Dependent on Families Availability
- Saturday - Sunday - 1 p.m. - 8 p.m.
- Virtual and In person opportunities available
- Participate in at least 2 monthly Child and Family Team Meetings (CFT) of traditional and non-traditional providers with the purpose of collaborating on a Plan of Care (POC) that is culturally sensitive and responsive to the individual needs of each child and family.
- Flexible with Participation: in person, phone, or providing small report.
- Complete Mandated Reporter Training and HIPAA training.
- Complete Monthly Activity Log and submit to YES Program Manager.
- Submit copy of receipts with Monthly Activity Log if needed for reimbursement.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must pass background check.
- Must complete onboarding requirements:
- Physical within the last year, TB Test, and Proof of Covid Vaccine.
- Computer skills such as knowledge of Zoom.
- Must have reliable transportation. (unless a virtual mentor)
- Must be attentive, recognize skills and interests of youth, be a good listener, communicate with youth, provide leadership, and emotional support.
- Must show good time management skills and be responsible by showing up for sessions on time.
