Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an experienced Environmental Scientist, Environmental Engineer, or Geologist to join our growing Environmental Business Line in our Honolulu Office. This is an exciting, growth opportunity for an experienced Environmental Scientist, Environmental Engineer, or Geologist to join a growing team in one of the best-qualified consulting firms in the country. The Environmental Scientist, Environmental Engineer, or Geologist will support environmental investigation, remediation and permitting projects, incident response and recovery (IRR) projects, and will work alongside and support senior-level managers on multiple projects.

Role accountabilities:


  • Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    Provide emergency response support (environmental sample planning and collection, state/federal regulator correspondence, onsite contractor oversight) for HAZMAT spills, with the potential to travel throughout Honolulu and Hawaii. Potential to travel throughout mainland USA to support project teams.
  • Assisting Project Managers (PMs) with project planning, budgeting, schedule monitoring and managing project controls.
  • Completing environmental remediation pre-design assessments, including soil and groundwater characterization and remedial pilot testing activities.
  • Office work may include task coordination, data compilation and interpretation, cost estimate preparation, health & safety plan preparation, report writing, regulatory file review, proposal writing, project strategy development, schedule and budget management, and establishment of subcontracts.
  • Field activities may include conducting site visits, completing site characterization activities including performing drilling oversight for soil sampling and/or groundwater well installations, groundwater sampling, and/or excavation oversight. Field activities may also include oversight of remedial system installation activities.
  • Working directly with a variety of engineering disciplines, office/project staff, client and sub-contractors, throughout the project life cycle.
  • Working effectively and collaboratively in team situations and establishing strong relationships with other teams where overlap of client project work exists.
  • Ensure project compliance with all Arcadis practices and quality and safety standards.
  • Facilitating project coordination for timely completion and submission of project deliverables.
  • Interface directly with clients and may serve as point of contact for various size projects.

This position requires a mixture of office activities and fieldwork. The successful candidate must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time. Travel may include overnight stays.

The successful candidate will have:


  • Superior communication skills, both oral and written; skills to include public speaking, ability to communicate effectively as part of a team, and preparation/development of technical documents
  • Client-facing experience and a basic understanding of client development and maintenance
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or Geology or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Incident Response experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience
