ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH - Office of Institutional Research and Evaluation at Tufts University

Job Description:

The Office of Institutional Research and Evaluation seeks an individual who possesses the ability to communicate effectively with clients as well as the expertise to design appropriate research protocols and survey instruments to fill its available position of Assistant Director of Institutional Research. The Office of Institutional Research and Evaluation serves as a research resource to the university community. The range of assistance is great - from consulting on survey construction to designing, executing and reporting entire projects. The office routinely completes marketing research, outcomes assessments, and policy analyses for various offices and schools within the university.

The Assistant Director of Institutional Research will assume responsibility of the management of the Office of Institutional Research and Evaluation in the Associate Provost's and Associate Director's absence. She/he will represent the Associate Provost and/or Associate Director at meetings with senior administrators and university clients. In conjunction with the Associate Provost and the Associate Director, the Assistant Director of Institutional Research will provide supervision and guidance to research analysts, graduate research assistants and undergraduate research assistants regarding appropriate methodical approaches. The Assistant Director of Institutional Research will also:


* Create questionnaire design and the coordination and administration of instruments;
* Conduct focus groups or in-depth interviews;
* Make decisions regarding the appropriateness of releasing information;
* Meet with clients to outline parameters of research and attend school-based or university-wide committee meetings;
* Provide analysis of results, report preparation and communication of results;
* Review and comment on the work of research analysts;
* Work in conjunction with the Associate Provost, Associate Director and IR Coordinator in formulating both short and long term goals of the office, help with developing strategic initiatives, and developing policies and procedures to improve the office.

Basic Requirements:


* Master's degree with three (3) years of related experience OR a Bachelor's degree with eight (8) years of related experience
* Candidate must possess strong quantitative and qualitative research skills
* Demonstrated knowledge of statistical concepts/applications, including multivariate statistics; expertise in use of SPSS or SAS, spreadsheet and graphics software; knowledge of student learning outcomes assessment practices and accreditation; experience with data collection and statistical analysis and report preparation is required
* Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, strong problem solving skills, strong organizational skills, and strong interpersonal skills (ability to work with teams)
* Basic knowledge of html and web design survey software
* Ability and willingness to make decisions is a must
* The successful candidate will have a proactive work ethic and take initiative to solve problems and work independently
* Must have the ability to work in a diverse, collegial and collaborative team environment

Preferred Qualifications:A doctorate degree is highly desirable.
