RESEARCH TECHNICIAN - Neuroscience at Tufts University

Job Description:

The Department of Neuroscience coordinates neuroscience educational and research programs within the Sackler School of Biomedical Sciences and the Tufts University School of Medicine. Departmental faculty direct research programs in many different areas of cellular and molecular neuroscience with emphasis on synapse neurobiology and the use of neurogenetics approaches. They participate in a new Synapse Neurobiology Graduate Training Program that is directed by Kathy Dunlap.

In addition to educational and research activities, faculty of the department supervise activities of the Tufts Center for Neuroscience Research (CNR), a center funded by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders & Stroke (NINDS). The CNR supports six different core research facilities, several located within departmental space, that provide services to all research labs of the medical school and its affiliated hospitals.

The Research Technician's responsibilities include conducting labortory research investigating the pathogenic pathways of Alzheimer's Disease. Projects entail techniques in cell and molecular biology and mouse animal models.

Basic Requirements: A Bachelors Degree with up to one year of experience. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to handle mice

Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree preferably with a science major. Basic understanding of cell biology, microbiology, genetics, and biochemistry. Prior laboratory experience preferred.Specific techniques required include sterile cell culture techniques, Western blot, co-immuoprecipitation, PCR, site directed mutagenesis as well as animal breeding, ear tagging, tail clipping, genotyping, and mouse behavioral tests.
