Job Description:

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Staff Attorney in the Law Library are to include:


  • Client consultations - 3 days per week in the office
      Meet with Law Library patrons and provide advice and brief services related to civil litigation matters in Gwinnett County

  • Screen patrons for eligibility for the clientEnter and track patron engagement in Legal Server, our client management databaseResearch various questions of law and provide short, concise answers to library patronsEmbody excellent customer service and the ability to work with individuals, including those who may be limited English speakers, have low literacy, or have disabilities, both mental and physicalExhibit empathy for and patience with working with individuals who are not familiar with the legal systemMake appropriate referrals to Legal Aid offices and projects, as well as external legal and social services providersDevelop and deliver quarterly presentations for Library patrons on various areas of law

  • Legal Resources updates - 2 days per week at the office

    • Research and write updates to pro se materials in various areas of civil law including family law, housing, and public benefits including forms, brochures and other resources

    • Work with Legal Aid community outreach and education and marketing/design staff to ensure consistent branding across collateral and materials

    • Work with Legal Aid staff to ensure online resources are up to date



  • General Staff Attorney duties

    • As practicable, this position will also assist with regular client screening and intake, community outreach and pro bono support.


  • Qualifications



    Qualified candidates must be a member of the Georgia Bar in good standing, and have at least two (2) years of family law litigation experience. Applicants must also possess excellent legal writing skills, good communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a team and alone, adaptability, and appreciation of diversity. Experience in housing, consumer, public benefits, education, and health law; a demonstrated commitment to public service; prior work with low-income people; participation in law school clinics and trial advocacy courses are preferred. Proficiency in languages other than English, particularly Spanish, is highly valued.
